FUEiNT Technologies is a software studio in Coimbatore, India, building custom software since 2014. This WebP converter is one of the small tools we built for our own client work and publish free: it runs entirely in your browser, and asks for no account and no email address.

The conversion runs in the page itself. Your images never reach a server of ours, because there is no server of ours for them to reach.

The slider is the WebP quality, 0 to 100, and it starts at 50. Lower makes a smaller file and more visible artefacts; around 70 to 80 is where most photographs stop losing anything you can see.
Each image is drawn onto a canvas at its own natural size and re-encoded there. Nothing is resized, cropped or renamed beyond the file extension.

WebP is an image format Google published in 2010, and every current browser reads it. It does lossy compression like JPEG and lossless compression like PNG, and it supports transparency and animation in both modes — which is the part neither JPEG nor GIF manages on its own.
Google’s own published figures put a lossy WebP at 25–34% smaller than a JPEG of comparable quality, and a lossless WebP at around 26% smaller than the equivalent PNG. On a product page carrying twenty photographs, that difference decides whether the page appears on a mid-range phone on a weak connection or whether the shopper leaves first.
Nowhere. The page reads the file you picked, draws it to a canvas element and asks the browser to re-encode it. The ZIP is assembled in the page too. No request is made and no copy is kept, here or anywhere else.
You do not have to take our word for it. Open your browser’s network panel, convert a file, and watch that nothing is sent. Or disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded — the converter carries on working.
Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari all display WebP directly, so double-clicking one usually just works. For editing, GIMP, Photopea, Paint, Pixelmator and Corel PaintShop Pro all open them, and Photoshop has read WebP without a plugin since version 23.2 in 2022.
Older Photoshop versions, IrfanView and the long-retired Windows Photo Viewer still need a plugin. If a program refuses a WebP outright, put the file through this converter first and it will come back as a PNG that everything opens.
We convert images to WebP on nearly every site we build, and we were not willing to upload a client’s unreleased artwork to somebody else’s server to do it. So the converter runs in the browser, and since it costs us nothing to run, it is free and it stays free.

We never receive them. The conversion happens inside your browser, so there is no upload, no copy on a server and nothing for us to keep or delete.
JPG, PNG, GIF, AVIF and ICO are the ones we test. In practice anything your browser can decode as an image will convert, because the browser does the decoding.
It converts the other way and gives you a PNG. The quality slider has no effect on that path — PNG is lossless, so the setting is ignored.
Usually one of two reasons. Re-encoding an already-compressed JPEG at a high quality setting can cost more bytes than it saves, so drop the slider. And a WebP converted back to PNG is almost always larger, because PNG keeps every pixel exactly.
Only the first frame. Each image is drawn once to a canvas, so an animated GIF comes out as a still WebP. For animated WebP you want a command-line tool such as gif2webp.
None that we impose. The real limit is your own device: the whole set is held in the page while it converts, so several hundred large photographs will struggle on a phone and be fine on a laptop.
Once the page has loaded, yes. Nothing after that point needs a connection.
